ICT

Examining Body: OCR

By the time pupils leave school 95% of all jobs will require "Digital Literacy" - the ability to use computers and other digital systems to communicate, store or process data. Digital Literacy is also the ability to use a new piece of software, perhaps specific to a particular job, with minimum training.  Remember that some of the software you will use in the future has not been invented or written next. A qualification in ICT is an indication to a future employer that you are Digitally Literate.

What can I do with this qualification when I leave school?

  • Students going to Scarborough Sixth Form College will be exempt from studying wider key skills ICT if they pass.
  • YCC require different entry requirements for different courses.  ICT can be one of them
  • Most employers will require at least basic ICT skills when they take on a new employee.

Students will follow a Level 2 OCR National course in ICT.  The course consists of three modules.  The first, ICT for Business is the basics of word processing, DTP, spreadsheets, presentations and databases.  This unit is compulsory.  Two further units make up the award; they will be: graphics and web development.  The award is gained 100% by coursework.

Students will pass the course at the equivalent of GCSE grade C; gain a merit, the equivalent of GCSE grade B; or gain a distinction, the equivalent of GCSE grade A/A*.

More able students may extend the Award to a Certificate which is the equivalent of two GCSEs
