This course is all about designing and making things in common materials like wood, plastic and metal.

If you

• enjoy making things
• want to learn more about common materials like wood, metal and plastics
• want to experiment with these materials and turn them into useful things
• want to become an imaginative problem solver
• want to learn how to present your ideas to other people in effective and dynamic ways
• want to learn how to use hand and machine tools properly

During the course you will:

• Design and make a variety of different products
• Plan and make solutions to different problems
• Test and evaluate existing products, components and your designs
• Use ICT to help you design, as well as collect research information and present your ideas
• Learn how to use hand and machine tools safely to shape, form and join different materials
• Select the right material, or combination of materials for the job
• Learn to organise and plan effectively

The Way Ahead

The course will teach you skills like planning, researching, experimenting and testing together with communicating ideas and looking at things in new and creative ways. GCSE Resistant Materials will give you a good start for A and AS Levels, Vocational and Degree courses at colleges and universities.
