D&T Electronic Products
Examining Body: AQA This course focuses on designing and making a wide and varied range of electronic products. Students will learn about the function of electronic components, how they operate and how they can be used. This detailed knowledge will enable students to create useful circuits that solve relevant design problems. From a general design brief students will individually customise the design brief to suit their needs and interests. Pupils will produce original and creative design ideas and these will be developed through a range of computer aided design programmes (CAD). The students will use circuit simulation software to test, evaluate and develop their design ideas before manufacturing begins in the workshop. In addition to designing and making electronic circuits that have specific functions, students will be required to design and manufacture appropriate protective housings for the circuits using common resistant materials e.g. wood, metal and plastics. The housing and the circuit are combined to produce functioning, high quality electronic products. The Way Ahead and Jobs Gaining a GCSE in Electronic Products will provide a useful knowledge base for a wide range of careers, these include Electrician, Electronics Assembly, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Communications Technology and Energy Supply & Technology.
