Examining Body: EDEXCEL

The BTEC qualification in Creative Media Production offers students an exciting and relevant way into a wide variety of courses and career paths. In a fast-changing, technologically-driven society, students that have studied this course will find that they develop many of the skills and tools they need to succeed in further education and in the contemporary workplace.

The course centres around two production modules. In year 10 students study in detail the way that the advertising industry operates. They will develop understanding of how adverts are constructed and how they meet the needs and expectations of their target audiences, and then produce their own print, radio and TV adverts. The module will be complemented by the development of skills in research and communication techniques.

Year 11 will be focused on the video production unit in which students will study and develop the skills required for working in the moving image sector of the media industry. They will learn about different stages of creative video production and have a go at the different jobs to be found in this area.

The culmination of the course will be a screening of the students' own short films, which they will have worked on throughout the year. Once again, this will be complemented by the development of research and communication skills for working in the media sector.

How will this subject be taught and what will be expected from me?

  • The course offers students a stepping stone into both academic and vocational courses and into the industry itself.
  • Students who take this course can go on to do related or non-related A-levels, higher level vocational qualifications and diplomas, and ultimately degree subjects should they so choose.
