Examining Body: AQA

In Art, craft and design, pupils explore visual, tactile and other sensory experiences to communicate ideas and meanings. They work with traditional and new media, developing confidence, competence, imagination and creativity. They learn to appreciate and value images and artifacts across times and culture, and to understand the contexts in which they were made. Students reflect, critically, on their own and other peoples' work, judging quality, value and meaning. They learn to think and act as artists, craftspeople and designers, working creatively and intelligently.

What can I do with this qualification when I leave school?

  • The course challenges students into looking at and responding to their environment and the world in which we live and provides a platform for further study at AS/A level as well as other creativity based courses available.

Students follow the AQA Art & Design course which may lead to a GCSE after two years. Students are required to produce a portfolio of coursework (60% of final grade) and complete an externally set task (40%). In addition, students will be expected to keep a sketchbook to develop and explore ideas and demonstrate an understanding of the assessment objectives. Students will be expected to spend a considerable amount of time and effort outside of the classroom environment.
